I am going to try to sit down this weekend and gather the music for Veteran’s Day - it will be a challange but if I am not able to gather it, I think it would be great to do some “patriotic” songs.
The choir is not going to be able to learn anything new this time. I have had to double up choir practice in order for us to be ready for Christmas.
Patriotic songs would be good and I like the idea of honoring those who were/are in the service. Any ideas?
#1 - I heard this great version of Battle Hymn of Republic (Mine eyes have seen the Glory) but get this - it was a BLUEGRASS sound. I think it would be neat to do this song.
#2 - God Bless America
#3 - Taps - let’s honor the fallen people by doing this. We will ask those who have lost a loved one (be it friend or family) to stand. Have an American flag front and center and bring the house lights down and show a spotlight on the flag. Then have Sabrina (flute) play Taps - which she can do really good - she played it for me the other day. Just silence nothing else.
Oh I forgot - I have all of the Veteran’s Day posters from 1968 saved on the computer - during one song/something - it would be awesome to have them scroll through on the media screens.
The Anchor Holds - just choir and band
I like the posters.
Here are the patriotic songs for Sunday:
America, the Beautiful (sung as a simple choir special)
My, Country, Tis of Thee
The Star-Spangled Banner
There will be a video in the middle of everything. We might save “taps” for memorial day.
Did you know that mom’s day and pop’s day were originally created to honor the parents who have children in the military? Mom’s day was not created to give mom an excuse to make us chocolate pies on mom’s day. Go figure.
